ABOUT THIS PAGE...
There has been an increased targeting of NSFW artists, content creators, and queer people online thanks to sites/groups like Twitter, soyjak.party, Doxbin, UTTP, Kiwi Farms, etc. and I would like to set this page up to provide a guide for adult content creators of any kind to protect their personal info.
This page will serve as resources for anti-doxing measure and provide OpSec tips for adult content creators.WHAT EVEN IS DOXXING?...
Doxxing is the act of disclosing the personal information of a target, which includes names, home addresses, phone numbers, date-of-birth, financial information, and other sensitive data, without their consent. The goal is to intimidate, threaten, and potentially cause emotional distress or physical harm. The legality of it is grey area, but it's been wielded as a tactic against NSFW artists and transgender people, among many other targets, by malicious actors.
HOW IS IT DONE?...
Doxxers typically obtain personal information through the following means...
- Social media
...profiles are scrubbed for any identifiable locations, backgrounds, marked locations, and build a timeline/profile based off of what available info can be found.
- Search engines such as Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, etc.
...typically done with real names (if public) to find public records (voting records, court records, people search services).
- Data Breaches
...out of our control when they happens with services, but there are services that allow people to search up data breaches and find info this way.
- Social engineering/deception
...a person pretending to be someone they're not/hiding their true intentions deceives you into revealing personal info.
- Malware
...a deceptive person convinces you to install programs that could steal personal info and relay it to the malicious party.
TIPS ON PROTECTING YOURSELF...1) Assess your threat model.
Are you hiding from an authoritarian government? Are you a member of a marginalized group? Do you produce "taboo" content? These factors could increase the likelihood of you being targeted, unfortunately, due to the far-right ideology these malicious actors have.
2) Keep personal info off the web.
Don't post addresses, phone numbers, etc., or anything that contains this, online. Very straightforward and common sense.
3) Monitor data breaches
Services like haveibeenpwned.com can allow you to check if your usernames, emails, passwords have been involved in a breach, and allow you to take actions (like changing passwords), or know if your info could be out there.
4) Approach strangers online with skepticism
Be weary of who you talk too if you speak with them for the first time, avoid giving out info unless you can trust them.
5) Don't download random files/click random links
Avoid downloading programs you dont know, and use third party extensions, such as the Anti-Grabbify extension, to watch out for IP Loggers.
6) Gatekeep payment services
Payment services often require you to put sensitive info in, and as such, clients are able to see your real name/email in their account history.
On sites like Ko-Fi, set minimum payment amounts to be $10 to avoid random $0.01 to $1.00 payments being made with the sole reason of viewing your info. Exercise the previous rule as well to ensure you trust your client to continue.CONCLUSION:
It's easy to have anxiety over this stuff, and as I create this carrd, I do not wish to associate my identity with it due to the naming of said actors at the start.
Adult content creators are under attack by these malicious groups, yes, be it online trolls or people in significant positions of power who lead Christian fundamentalist movements to undermine adult content and queer people. That said...This guide is not meant to cause paranoia.Continue posting adult content onlineWe are a strong community who have been here for decades at this point. There are resources out there (which I hope this document contributes to) you can keep at your disposal to protect you.Remember to practice mindfullness on top of good online safety principles <3.RESOURCES...
